Lilliana’s Communication Portfolio.
Greetings!
This section of my website provides an opportunity to delve deeper into my journey as a Communication major. My experience has been shaped by a range of courses that have widened my understanding of the world around me. One of the most prominent themes that emerged from my studies is the crucial role of embracing diversity and critically analyzing communication's impact on society. By exploring theoretical frameworks and real-life scenarios, I have honed my storytelling abilities, allowing me to illuminate the implications of human interaction in our global community.
My study of Communication has been a transformative experience, and the department's Program Learning Objectives have allowed me to highlight specific projects and papers from my time at Santa Clara that demonstrate my mastery of several critical skills, such as:
PLO 4: Analyze the ethical dimensions of communication and form judgments and practices based on evidence and values.
PLO 5: Demonstrate research skills including the ability to formulate research questions, interpret, and evaluate the quality of communication research.
PLO 6: Demonstrate the ability to produce and critically reflect on effective oral, written, visual, and mediated communication that is adapted to diverse audiences within multiple contexts.
I chose these three Program Learning Objectives as they all have pushed me to become tenaciously curious about the social, political, and emotional structures that bound human interactions with one another. The projects I chose to articulate my mastery of these PLOs come from a range of my lower and upper-division COMM classes, from group projects to individual essays. They explore themes of ethics, social justice, racial equality, and the experience of Gen Z individuals.
Through visiting my artifacts, I have been able to fine-tune my ability to implement solid research questions, tie intersectional themes together, streamline solutions to societal obstacles, and develop my own ideas and opinions into well-formulated thoughts. This major has contributed to my ability to grow as an individual and strive for a diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.
